How to replace a broken hook on your bra

I don't generally have an easy time finding a good, comfortable bra so when the laundry machine goes to battle on one of them, it makes me sad. It feels like I've lost a friend who was always there supporting me. 😉
Luckily, it is relatively easy to replace a broken hook as I will show you here.

What you will need:
seam ripper
thread
needle
a hook

If you don't have any replacement hooks in your notions stash, you can find them online at places like Amazon or your favorite fabric/craft store will probably have them. Just try searching "hooks & eyes" in sewing notions.
Here is a link to some on Amazon, but I since I still have lots and lots of notions I've collected over the years, I have not needed to purchase these (yet). I cannot tell you how they are.

Another way to get a replacement hook if you have an older bra that you no longer like, you can remove a hook from it.

First step is to extract the broken hook.
Using a seam ripper, remove the stitching around the offending hook.

You should also remove just a couple stitches that hold that end piece closed; this will make removing the old hook and inserting the new hook easier.

The broken hook should come out easily from the small opening that has been created.

This picture shows the hook removed and the holes we'll be reusing to sew the new hook in place.

Place the new hook into the same space the old one came out of and sew it in place. I like to use the original thread holes to help place the hook so it lines up correctly.

In these last two photos you can see how the new hook looks. I did use a green thread just so you could see the stitches I made. Generally, I would try to match the thread to the fabric so it is not so noticeable.

But who's going to see it anyway, right?
